About Project Bell

Isabella and Alexa, two sisters, are the Co-Presidents of Project Bell.  Project Bell is a non-profit started in 2016 that donates ‘New Beginning Bells,’ to those in need. It is a 501(c)(3) charity.

Background on Project Bell- When Isabella was 12 and Alexa 10, their Mom, needed proton radiation for a benign but life threatening brain tumor. At Massachusetts General Hospital, where their mom was treated, they had a tradition where patients would ring a beautiful bell three times when they completed radiation treatment. This would signify the end of their treatment, inspire hope, and a start to a new post treatment life. When the patients rang the bell, everyone at the treatment center, friends and family joined in to celebrate. The girls witnessed the tremendous impact the “bell ringing” ceremony had on their mother and other patients as it provided a feeling of hope, empowerment and accomplishment.

About Isabella Learning that only a few radiation centers had bells, 12 year old Isabella decided that all radiation centers who wanted one should have the ability to have a bell for those going through radiation and founded Project Bell. In order to raise money to donate the bells, she initially designed, created and sold hundreds of inspirational charm bracelets. She used 100% of the net profits and donated many bells to radiation centers across the country. Her initial goal was to donate a bell to every radiation center in the United States that wanted one. Isabella not only spread the project throughout the United States, but also donated numerous bells internationally, spreading this beautiful tradition worldwide.

About Alexa Alexa has been an integral part of Project Bell since the beginning.  Early on, she helped to create charm bracelets and support the initiative,  Later, she became  Co- President in 2019 at the age of 13. She has helped continue to spread the project globally. In addition, she has been involved in driving  social media marketing which has helped create a large following and that spurred bell donations to the project. 

In 2022, Alexa was approached to expand the project by donating two bells to a ‘solid organ transplant program’- one for the transplant donor to ring and the other for the transplant recipient to ring. Alexa was so moved by the thought of providing ‘bells of hope’ to transplant centers and also providing awareness of the need for organ donation, that she decided to expand Project Bell to include transplant programs! She created Project Bell Transplant and is working closely with multiple transplant centers to provide bells to any transplant centers that want them. 

Together the sisters’ goal is to donate bells to any cancer facilities or transplant centers in the United States or globally that would like one.
